LABYRINTH OF LIFE @ CCRC

What is a Labyrinth?

A Contemplative Labyrinth is a peaceful meditative walk that offers an opportunity for connection to nature, your body, thoughts, emotions, life, and the Divine.

A Labyrinth is not a maze. It is an easy, clear path into the center and the same path out.

Before you Walk

Before you walk the labyrinth, consider setting your intention for the walk.

  • What do you need at this moment?  Your deepest longing?
  • With what attitude would you like to walk? Presence, Compassion, Patience, Gratitude, Surrendering, Welcoming, Opening?

How to Walk a Labyrinth

There are many ways to walk the labyrinth, depending on your intention.

  • Walking meditation, feeling your physical sensation
  • Consider your Journey of Life and your Spiritual Journey
  • Meditate on a Bible text or Quote or just one word like "Life"
  • Reflect on an issue or question in your life
  • Open Awareness
  • Pray as you walk

Pause regularly, reflecting on what is happening at this moment in the presence of the Divine.

The Mystery of the White Stones

At the center of the labyrinth, you'll find white stones, reminiscent of the Biblical passage from Revelation 2:17 “I will give a white stone, and on the white stone is written a new name that no one knows except the one who receives it.”. In Ancient times, it symbolized acquittal in court in ancient Greece, and in Roman times, a victor's entry to a celebratory banquet. You are encouraged to take a white stone from the middle with you as a reminder of God as your Companion throughout life's pilgrimage.

A PRAYER

Eternal God, you call us to ventures of which we cannot see the ending by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown. Give us faith to go out with courage, not knowing where we go, but only that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. —The Book of Common Worship
